| Not content to
rely solely on the marketing efforts of his publisher, author Kent Lester
has decided to use a special kind of "bookmobile" to promote his
new novel, The Sixth Extinction.
Book signings can be a grueling process
for most writers, often requiring them to travel cross country by plane
for months at a time. In order to make the process a little less
stressful and a whole lot more practical, Kent intends to use a motorhome
as his main mode of transportation.
"This provides several unique
benefits," says Kent. "With a large mock up of the book
cover on the sides of the motorhome, I've got a moving billboard to
attract the attention of motorists and bystanders as we move the book
signing tour westward." Kent also intends to provide space on
the side of the motorhome to post the time and location of his next book
signing, hopefully pulling more visitors into the store.

By contacting
the bookstores in advance, he plans to request a prominent parking space to help advertise the event. And once the
signing is over, it's off to the next stop, advertising
along the way. The additional storage space on board
the motorhome ensures that bookstores will have ample copies of the
novel to sell. Never again will the bookstore run out of
promotional copies in the midst of a visit.
A Direct PC satellite dish and cell
phone will keep Kent in constant touch, and will allow him to conduct
radio interviews on the road. With Kent's wife Penny along for the
trip, book signings may actually become (gasp!) fun.
